Men's Volleyball Win Home Opener, Defeat New Jersey City in Four

The men’s volleyball team began their home schedule with a four-set victory (30-23, 30-26, 29-31, 30-23) against New Jersey City University on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.
 
The Bearcats won the first two sets, but lost the third in tight fashion, 31-29. They regrouped to win the fourth, 30-23, to wrap up the victory at home for their second straight win.
 
Junior Danial Levent (Forest Hills, N.Y./American Studies) led the Bearcats with 20 kills, seven assists and 10 total blocks.
 
Sophomore Jonathan Tuwaidan (Woodside, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) and junior Eric Quintero (New York, N.Y./John Adams) each recorded eight kills.
 
Sophomore Radu Wyrwas (Bialystok, Poland/Grover Cleveland) dished out 41 assists in the victory.
 
Kevin Rodgers (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) led New Jersey City in their season-opener with 14 kills and 15 digs, while Chris Edra (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens) had 10 kills and 17 digs.
 
In other team news today, Danial Levent was named the CUNYAC Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week.
 
In a three-game opening weekend in which the Bearcats faced a pair of top-15 nationally ranked teams, Levent excelled at the net.
 
He averaged 5.0 kills per game while hitting .378 (60-18-111) at Ramapo’s quad meet, and posted 1.07 blocks per game (13 total, seven solo).
 
Levent registered a 19-kill, 13-dig double-double in a four-game match against Newbury, before adding a 13-kill effort with a .478 hitting percentage and three solo blocks against the host Roadrunners.
 
Rounding out his Saturday afternoon performance, the two-time CUNYAC Tournament Most Valuable Player finished two blocks shy of a five-game triple-double, hitting .429 (28-7-49) while posting eight blocks (two solo) and 10 digs.
 
The men’s volleyball team will resume action this weekend by participating in the Stevens Institute of Technology Tournament in Hoboken, New Jersey.
 
The Bearcats will play against tournament hosts and #5 ranked Stevens Tech at 8:00 pm Saturday night.
